Start with primary care when appropriate
Your primary care office is often the best place for non-life-threatening illness, medication questions, chronic-condition changes, preventive care, and symptoms that can safely wait for an available appointment.
Urgent care may help after hours
An urgent care center may be useful for a problem that needs evaluation soon but is not a medical emergency, especially when your regular office is closed.
Call 911 for emergency warning signs
Call 911 for symptoms such as severe trouble breathing, signs of stroke, major trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, severe chest pressure, loss of consciousness, or another situation that appears life-threatening.
If you are uncertain, call the clinic during open hours for direction. Do not send urgent symptoms through the portal.
